People search “ProPresenter free” and “free ProPresenter” for good reason. ProPresenter is the best-known church presentation software, and plenty of church budgets don’t have a line for it.
The short answer: no, ProPresenter isn’t free. It’s sold as a subscription. You can download it at no cost and build presentations, but anything you put on a screen from an unlicensed copy is watermarked. There’s a 14-day full trial, and there are genuinely free alternatives.
Here’s exactly what you can and can’t do for free, what it costs, and your options. We read Renewed Vision’s pricing and support pages on October 17, 2026.
What the free download can do
Anyone can download ProPresenter for Mac or Windows from Renewed Vision’s site. Without a subscription, it runs as a Local Editor:
| Free (Local Editor) | 14-day trial | Paid subscription | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Download and install | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Build, edit and export presentations | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Present to an audience without a watermark | No. A watermark appears at random intervals | Yes | Yes |
| Cost | $0 | $0 for 14 days, then paid | $29/mo or $289/yr per seat |
Renewed Vision says the free mode isn’t meant for use in front of an audience. In practice, a free copy is useful on the pastor’s laptop or an office computer for preparing slides, not for running Sunday.
The free trial
Renewed Vision offers a 14-day trial: a fully registered copy with no watermark that you can use live. Before you start it, know that:
- It starts as soon as you finish signing up, so start it the week you’ll actually test.
- It needs a credit card, and it turns into a paid subscription ($29/month or $289/year) unless you cancel before it ends.
- Each organization gets one trial.
- After 14 days, ProPresenter keeps working, but with the watermark back on the output.
How much ProPresenter costs in 2026
ProPresenter is now subscription-only for new users. Renewed Vision moved to subscriptions in July 2024, with version 17 (dropping the “7” from the name). The current version is 21, and ProPresenter 22, which adds ProPresenter Cloud, is in public beta.
| Monthly | Annual | |
|---|---|---|
| First seat | $29 | $289 |
| Seats 2 to 4 | $29 each | $189 each |
| Seats 5 to 10 | $29 each | $149 each |
| More than 10 | $29 each | $129 each, by quote |
Monthly plans don’t get volume discounts. Every subscription includes ProPresenter Cloud with 50 GB of storage and two Cloud Editor seats (Cloud Editor output is watermarked). More storage is $49 to $249 a year depending on size, and extra Cloud Editor seats are $29 a year each.
Renewed Vision doesn’t list an education or non-profit discount.
What a typical church pays
- One booth computer: $289 a year.
- A booth computer and a backup: $478 a year ($289 + $189).
- Booth, backup and a youth room: $667 a year.
Office and home computers used only to prepare slides can run the free Local Editor, since the watermark only matters on a live screen. Add a CCLI license for projecting lyrics either way.
System requirements
ProPresenter needs at least macOS 13.5 or Windows 10 (version 1903), and Renewed Vision recommends macOS 15 or Windows 11. You’ll need a dedicated graphics card for more than four HD outputs, except on Apple Silicon Macs.
What about older versions?
If your church already owns an older license, it may still work:
- ProPresenter 6 and earlier were sold as perpetual licenses. They keep working on computers that can still run them, but they’re no longer sold or updated.
- ProPresenter 7 licenses whose ProPresenter+ update plan lapsed keep running the last version released before it expired. ProPresenter+ can no longer be renewed; churches that moved to a subscription from it keep a legacy price.
Running an old version forever has costs: no fixes, no support for new operating systems, and a booth computer you can’t update without risking Sunday.
Don’t download “free ProPresenter” from unofficial sites. Cracked copies violate the license and are a common way to put malware on the computer that runs your service.
Free alternatives to ProPresenter
If ProPresenter’s price doesn’t fit, these free options can run a full service:
| Alternative | Cost | Runs on | ProPresenter import | Stage display |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WorshipMetrics Present | Free forever, unlimited users | Web browser (Chrome or Edge for screens), plus the Tech Manager desktop app for NDI and SDI | Yes: ProPresenter 7 shows, plus ProPresenter 4–6 files through Songs | Yes, with chord charts |
| FreeShow | Free, open source | Windows, Mac, Linux | Yes | Yes |
| OpenLP | Free, open source | Windows, Mac, Linux | Imports several song formats | Yes, in a browser |
| WorshipTools Presenter | Free tier; paid Pro for stage display and multiple outputs | Mac, Windows | Not listed | Paid plan |
And if you want a paid tool that costs less for a church with several computers, EasyWorship is a subscription with one license covering every computer at a church location, from $210 a year for the smallest churches. See EasyWorship vs ProPresenter.
The full rundown of free options, and what you give up with each, is in Best Free Church Presentation Software.
Moving from ProPresenter to WorshipMetrics Present
If you’ve been running ProPresenter and want to try Present, you don’t have to start over:
- ProPresenter 7 shows import straight into Present.
- ProPresenter 4–6 files, ChordPro, OpenLyrics and OpenSong come in through Songs, or paste plain text.
- Song arrangements and keys stay with each song, so slides follow the arrangement your worship leader picks.
Migrating Your Song Library from ProPresenter covers what carries over. Present is free forever with unlimited users, so you can run both side by side for a few weeks before deciding.
You can also keep ProPresenter and still use the rest of WorshipMetrics: ProPresenter for slides, and WorshipMetrics for planning, cameras, streaming and monitoring.
Bottom line
- ProPresenter isn’t free for running services: $29 a month or $289 a year per seat for new users.
- The free download is for preparing slides, with a watermark on any live output.
- The 14-day trial is real, but needs a credit card and converts to paid unless you cancel.
- Older licenses keep working, without updates.
- Free alternatives exist: WorshipMetrics Present, FreeShow and OpenLP can all run a full service.
Start Present free: no credit card, no trial clock, no watermark.
Related questions
- Is ProPresenter free?
- No. New users subscribe for $29 a month or $289 a year per seat. You can download ProPresenter and build presentations for free as a Local Editor, but output from an unlicensed copy shows a watermark at random intervals, so it isn't meant for live services.
- Is there a free trial of ProPresenter?
- Yes. Renewed Vision offers a 14-day trial with no watermark. It needs a credit card, each organization gets one, and it becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends.
- Can I still use ProPresenter 6 or 7 for free?
- If you already own them, older licenses keep working. ProPresenter 6 and earlier were perpetual licenses and still run on computers that support them, though they're no longer sold. A ProPresenter 7 license whose update plan lapsed keeps running the last version released before it expired.
- How much does ProPresenter cost for a church with several computers?
- On annual billing, the first seat is $289 a year, seats 2 to 4 are $189 each, and seats 5 to 10 are $149 each. Monthly plans are $29 per seat with no volume discount. Computers used only to prepare slides can run the free, watermarked Local Editor.
- What is the best free alternative to ProPresenter?
- WorshipMetrics Present is free forever, runs in a browser and imports ProPresenter 7 shows. FreeShow is a free, open-source desktop app that also imports ProPresenter files.
